The Moon Exports cuts, presses, and finishes buffalo horn in Sambhal, Uttar Pradesh — the district that supplies much of the world’s horn eyewear stock. We supply horn plate blanks to frame makers, run OEM and private-label frame production, and build bespoke frames one at a time in our own studio.
Most horn eyewear sold in Europe and North America begins as Indian buffalo horn. We are at that origin point rather than downstream of it, which is why brands come to us for plate consistency, colour matching, and repeatable specification across reorders.

Raw horn is sorted by colour family, wall thickness, and defect level. Stock that will not yield a clean plate is diverted to non-optical use.
Horn is heated and pressed flat, then rested so it holds its shape. Rushing this stage is the single most common cause of later warping.
Flattened horn is cut to the plate dimensions and thickness the customer specified, then graded again for colour consistency.
Fronts and temples are cut from the plate, rims are opened for lenses, and hinge and core wire positions are set.
Edges are worked by hand and the frame is polished in stages to bring up the natural gloss without burning the horn.

Yes. Plate blanks are a core line — many frame makers in Europe and Asia buy pressed horn plates from Sambhal and cut frames themselves. We supply blanks cut to your thickness and footprint, and we also produce finished frames under OEM and private-label programs.
The horn is Indian water buffalo horn and is a by-product of existing livestock farming. It is collected after natural death or after slaughter for meat and leather. No animal is raised or culled for its horn, and we do not handle wild or protected species.
It depends on the line. Plate blanks have a low MOQ and can be sampled in small quantities. OEM and private-label frame runs are quoted per program, because tooling, construction, and finish drive the economics more than unit count alone. Within the limits of a natural material, yes. We sort and grade plates by colour family and match against your approved sample. Horn is not injection-moulded acetate, so exact tonal identity across batches is not achievable, and any supplier promising it is overselling.
Sampling typically runs a few weeks because horn has to be pressed and rested before it can be cut. Production lead time is confirmed with your quote once the specification and quantity are fixed.

Keep them away from prolonged heat and standing water, wipe them with a dry or barely damp cloth, and occasionally treat them with a light natural oil or wax to keep the surface glossy. Horn ages well when it is not left to dry out.
